Our Testimonies:  A Mother and Daughter Fulfilling God's Calling

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."                                       - Jeremiah 29:11

Grace Kajoina

My name is Grace Kajoina, a passionate servant of God who loves children a lot. I am a mother of 3 biological children but of very many children that have crossed my mind. I love seeing what children eventually turn out to after many years of investment.  It's a blessing.

In 1993, I separated with the father of my children who is now deceased. I started life of a single mother, we had no basic needs and life was really hopeless.

In 1998, a friend of mine invited me to her local church which happened to have a Compassion assisted project. I recommitted my life to Christ and this marked a journey of new beginnings with Christ. God being gracious to us, my youngest daughter Monica was registered too onto the Compassion International program. I would follow her to the project day every Saturday since I had really nothing to do. The people there were nice and welcomed me with open arms. I would also get a decent meal like how the children were fed. I was really good as I learned more about God. As time went on, the project director noticed me and gave me a small job to clean their offices and also cook for the children who came every Saturday. I assure you I was very hardworking and diligent as I performed these duties. Indeed God blessed me more, I was later added another responsibility of being in charge of the food storage room. As if that was not enough I got an extra job to do during the week. By that time, the wife to the Country Director of Compassion International Uganda used to fellowship at that same church so she noticed me too, and offered me a job at her kindergarten as a cleaner, and later put me in charge of school uniforms, purchasing all food and banking all monies.

In 2004, at church together with Compassion International Uganda, there was a search for foster mothers at Agape Children's Village and by the grace of God, I was selected to be one and more so a senior mother based on my previous record of how I love children.

In 2015, Monica got married and I was given a very good amount of dowry in form of money. I really needed to do something memorable out of this gift and that's when the idea of Out Pouring Grace Ministries Kikyusa came in. I shared with Monica and she supported it as we have always wanted to make other people's lives better like how we were placed. We purchased 3 acres of land with a vision to plant a ministry on that land with a primary and vocational school and a church.

In 2017, I was blessed with an opportunity as longest serving staff at ACV to be part of the Never Once Tour.  Towards the end of that trip, I met these amazing Souls, Mr and Mrs Flath. It was a short meeting but they loved me so much and when we returned to Uganda, we kept in touch and along the way they got to know about Out Pouring Grace Ministries, which they really loved and offered to partner with us. So after my ever first trip from Uganda, I started to consider resigning from ACV and serve fully at Out Pouring Grace. We prayed and fasted with Norah, Eva and Monica and in 2019 December, I resigned from my service at ACV to fully concentrate on Out Pouring Grace Ministries.

It's what I am currently doing, channeling my savings to set up two structures on that land i.e. a house for shelter and a pit latrine. We are currently moving forward, blessing residents with means as we can through collecting used clothes from well wishers & giving them out, scholastic materials to the 28 children we have registered so far, preaching the word of God door to door, and providing some food items when we are able to.  I love seeing children growing in hand. Children are in my blood. Without children and women around me I am nothing.

This my calling and I love it.

Monica Namusuubo Opio

Praise God everyone reading this, My name is Monica Namusuubo Opio, a daughter to Ms. Kajoina Grace and late Geeri Gerald. I am married to Mr. Joshua Opio with three beautiful girls i.e. AineMukama Kezaabu (Gold),  KaineMukama Nyonyozi (Star) and TwineMukama Nkunzi (Lover) Agirabingi (Has Plenty)

From a polygamous family I was born but when I was 3 years, my mother couldn't handle domestic violence and polygamy so she separated from my late father and that is how life started for me and my siblings being raised by a single mother. Fast forward, life was very tough from that time but kept pulling through year by year. Hope became dimmer in mid 1999 as my dear mother had lost her casual job at a biscuit packaging factory. My maternal uncle helped with my big sister as I remained with my mum. We struggled through life the two of us, where she would go I would go, whatever she would eat I would eat, we grew so close over the years up to now, we are so close.

Turning point:

In 1999, when the future was becoming dimmer, God sent a friend who knew about Compassion International Uganda that was running a program at one of the local churches. By the grace of God I was registered and was among the first to get a sponsor. This opportunity turned both our lives around in an instant. We received the most valuable gift of Salvation, I started going to school again, mattress, blanket, school uniform (I had never worn a proper school uniform).  I can never forget this.  We would go for tours, I got friends, was groomed into becoming a mature Christian adult and a servant leader.  From 1999, Compassion took care of my Spiritual, socio-emotional, economic and physical needs until I completed university as a servant leader and Procurement and Supply Chain Management Professional.  All this was the hand of God and its against this background that I seize every opportunity to give back to community and the children and adults of Kikyusa. I was moulded into a lady of high integrity and mature Christian adult. I would like to pass on this fountain of knowledge to other children and adults to better their lives, not only through Out Pouring Grace Ministries Kikyusa, but also to all that I come in touch with.

I therefore call upon everyone who feels touched by this testimony of a transformed life, to give to bringing Christ close and changing the lives of children and adults in Kikyusa.

--By the way Kikyusa means "Changing" --

How amazing!
